Slanted Walnut Trestle Table.

Project Description

This trestle table is an alternate take on a previous trestle table design that I have modified and built numerous times.  This particular variation features splayed leg assemblies which are slanted out at 15 degrees from vertical.  This creates a trestle table that is even more stable and less prone to racking forces.  The wood species is black walnut, with a few of the table top boards displaying an incredibly unique “crotch” figure. The boards used for the top also have a prominent purple cast to them.  The vertical supports in the stretcher, as well as the stretch keys, are black cherry.  All of the joinery is mortise and tenon.  The top is joined to the base with threaded inserts and 1/4″ cap screws in oversized holes, allowing for adequate expansion and indefinite re-assembly.  The finish is a polymerized tung oil based varnish which utilizes a lower voc, citrus based solvent, for superior durability as well as for safety.
